10 minutes at 60°C is all it takes to kill dustmites and their eggs. To help maintain a dustmite free sleeping environment, we recommend that you switch your underblanket onto the maximum heat setting (6) for up to one hour on a weekly basis in both winter and summer. This will heat up your bed surface to the 60°C required to kill dustmites.
For normal use as a heated underblanket, simply choose from the 6 temperature settings using the slider control. Then use the timer selector to choose 1,3,6 or 12 hours. Your blanket will switch off automatically after the selected time. A patented SleepSafe Safety System ensures that it can't overheat.

Tests for Dustmite Reductions
The AllergyFree heated mattress underblanket protects in two ways. On the maximum heat setting (6) It provides heat at 60°C. If left on for a minimum of 10 minutes this will kill dustmites and their eggs. The underblanket also benefits from hypoallergenic advanced HHL Health Protection fabric technology, which provides a barrier against infestation.
Time versus Temperature Mortality Studies:
The survival and mortality of adult and earlier life stages of dust mites were investigated in a controlled environmental chamber with a constant rate of temperature increase of 3.6°C/h. The temperatures ranged between 30°C and 55°C, with exposure times of 2 - 120 min.
Complete and immediate kill of adult dustmites occurred when temperatures reached at least 48°C.
To cause egg hatching failure, 50°C is required.
Temperatures in the range of 45-50 °C required a time component, as displayed in the table below:
