NEW! The smallest, most energy efficient air purifier in the world

Cleanaer

The CLEANAER™ is unlike any air purifier you’ve seen before. Created by medical researchers and using patented technology inspired by the microscopically fine delivery used in nebulisers, the Cleanaer™ releases millions of electrostatically-charged Liquid-ions in short bursts every 2 minutes. These air cleaning droplets remain in the air, patrolling every corner of your room and attracting dust, pet allergen, mould spores and pollen, odours and bacteria that are knocked to the floor on contact. Once removed from the air, tests have proved that the particles remain locked down until hovered up and do not recirculate.
Best of all it runs on 2 AA batteries, so costs next to nothing to run!

Eczema risk from early day care

day care

Children who spend their earliest years in day care may be at higher risk of eczema than those cared for at home, according to a new study from Germany. can now predict if newborns will be at high risk of developing allergies as they grow older, thanks to to researchers at the University of Adelaide.

A number of studies have found that eczema is more common among East German than West German children. Given that East German infants are also more likely to attend early day care, Dr Claudia Cramer and her team from the IUF-Institut fur Umweltmedizinische Forschung in Dusseldorf, Germany, investigated whether being in day care before the age of two, along with several other potential risk factors, influenced eczema risk.

The researchers followed 3,097 children from birth to age 6. Thirteen percent of the children from eastern Germany had been diagnosed with eczema by age 4, compared to 8 percent of the children from western Germany. Fifty-five percent of the children from East Germany attended day care in their first two years of life, compared to 6 percent of the West German children.

Early day care attendance was the only factor independently associated with eczema risk. Children in early day care were 56 percent more likely to have the skin condition than children who didn't attend day care before age 2. The effect seemed to weaken as children got older.

While the study didn't look at why early day care could increase the risk of the development of eczema, the researchers say that in day care children may be exposed to more allergens and microorganisms than at home. Children in day care could also be more stressed, which could promote the development of eczema.

Future research should look into how different types of day care and the amount of time children spend in day care affects children's immune response and stress levels, the researchers conclude.
