In a recent article in the Mail on Sunday Dr Jane Alder, lecturer in pharmacology at the University of Central Lancashire explains that one of the most common hazardous food and drug combinations is grilled meat and asthma medications. She says: Asthma sufferers should avoid grilled meat because the carbon compounds formed prevent asthma medications containing theophyline from working. The carbon compounds also trigger asthma attacks regardless of the medication taken, so very charred meat should be avoided. .

Asthmatics who smoke have more severe asthma, need more hospital admissions and are less likely to benefit from asthma medicines.
