More holiday essentials

GOING AWAY? Don’t forget to pack a cool cotton Dreambag or one of our dustmite-proof pillow covers to stop asthma attacks or eczema flare-ups from spoiling a holiday. Pillows and mattresses in hotels and villas are rarely covered with dustmite-proof encasings and the residues of detergent in unfamiliar bedding can be a trigger for allergies and eczema. Dreambags, designed and manufactured for us by The Sounder Sleep Company offer complete protection, covering both the mattress and the pillow. OR choose a cool dustmite proof cotton or lightweight microfibre encasing to guard against the dustmites that will be in the pillows of your hotel or rented accommodation. You can buy Dreambags and Pillow Covers free of VAT (UK & EC residents) if you have asthma, eczema or any condition that is made worse by exposure to house dustmites. Bite & Sting Alert

weever fish

DID YOU SEE reports in the papers of the people stung by a weever fish in Cornwall? This is the beastie (pictured left) that buries itself under sand in the shallows and discharges its venom into the foot of whoever has been unfortunate enough to tread on him.
Then there is the man who went into anaphylactic shock after he was bitten by an adder in the Riverside Country Park at Rainham, Kent just last weekend.

A reminder then that the dangers of allergic reactions to bites and stings in Britain are not confined to bees and wasps. Sea anemones and jellyfish in Britain’s coastal waters can also pose a risk and the UK Health Protection Agency has warned of the increase of mosquitoes in the UK.

Our Natural Insect Repellent Patches will work a treat to ward off biting insects, but for any of the stinging nasties, our Venom Extractor is essential for your First Aid kit. Buy this weekend and save 10%. Click on the links now.

Does your child have cow’s milk allergy?

The Allergy specialist Team at St. Mary’s Hospital, London W2 is looking for children under the age of 2 with definite or possible cow’s milk allergy to take part in a research study to trial a new infant formula.
If you suspect your child is cow’s milk intolerant you can do a Milk Allergy test in the relaxed environment of your own home or apply to have your child considered for the trial. Click here for more details of the home test and the trial.
