"AllergyBestBuys Offer Solutions To Dust Mite Allergy"
With thousands of sufferers of dustmite allergies living right here in the UK, AllergyBestBuys, the online suppliers of asthma products and eczema treatment, offers a range of solutions to alleviate the day to day difficulties of living with an allergic reaction
Microscopically small dustmites live in our homes and survive by absorbing oxygen and moisture from the environment and feed on shed skin. The mites produce up to twenty droppings a day over their lifecycle of between three and four months and this excrement contains digestive enzymes which are a major cause of allergy.
Dust Mite Allergy is a reaction to these enzymes. These proteins attack the respiratory passages causing rhinitis and asthma and as dust mites live in our homes all year round, there is no seasonal relief.
For people with an allergy to mites, continued exposure to them can be a trigger to a range of chronic symptoms. Innovative and effective solutions to the problem of dust mites have therefore been welcomed by many allergy sufferers.
One popular solution is to use a tested, specialist vacuum cleaner designed with allergy sufferers in mind. A bagless vacuum cleaner such as the Thomas Genius Aquafilter binds dustmites in water rather than gathering them into a dust bag. The water acts as an effective filter meaning the air coming out of the machine is clean and fresh and fine particles cannot be blown back into the air. As there is no dustbag to empty, the dirt and dustmites are simply poured away with the water at the end of the cleaning task.
Dustmites favourite food is our old skin cells, so one of their favourite homes is a place where we spend a third of our time – the bed. Many dust mite allergy solutions therefore focus on protecting bed linen, mattresses and pillows from dustmite allergen.
Janet Rhodes of AllergyBestBuys who specialise in allergy remedies and mattress covers, said, “There are many bedding solutions available to people suffering with dustmite allergies. Cotton barrier covers are available which encase your duvet, mattress and pillows but let you use your own bed linen over the top. They are cool and comfortable and provide an excellent barrier against dust mites and other allergens. Our top-selling brand is Naturelle made from Cottonfresh specially woven cotton fabric. Naturelle covers are available VAT-free if you have asthma or dustmite allergies”
Bedding should be washed at a minimum of sixty degrees as this is the temperature at which the DNA of the dustmite allergen is destroyed. Experts suggest airing bedding regularly and avoiding stuffed soft toys that harbour dustmites unless they can be washed at 60C. Some people recommend placing toys, pillows or duvets in a plastic bag in the freezer for twenty-four hours a week, but although this will kill the dustmites the allergen will remain as it is water soluble and only destroyed at a temperature of 60C or above.
Mrs Rhodes added, “AllergyBestBuys has a range of hypoallergenic pillows and duvets called FeatherFresh filled with specially treated natural feather and down that can be washed at up to boiling point. Featherfresh duvets and pillows were originally made for hospital use, so they can withstand repeated washing at high temperatures and remain hypoallergenic and free of dustmites. They are also luxurious and supremely comfortable. They are individually made and one of the main advantages is that they can be washed at home as often as necessary. They also come in a dust mite proof cotton case.”
